Honeymoon wardrobe: French beach chic

Going on honeymoon can be a great excuse for updating your wardrobe, and if you’re looking for new hot-weather clothes, now’s definitely the time to be shopping; the shops are chocka-block with gorgeous summery options, from floaty maxi dresses to bright bikinis. So, while my brain is full of what to buy for my own holidays this year, I thought I’d share, over the next few weeks or so, a few different ideas for your honeymoon wardrobe. And where better to start than with ideas for a French beach honeymoon?

Sur la plage
Hat: Anthropologie (£38); dress: Topshop (£26); bikini: Topshop (£28.50); bag: Asos (£30); shoes: Asos (£30).

Maybe it’s my Francophile tendencies, but I have a bit of a thing for stripes, and this dress is the perfect cover-up for going between the beach and your hotel (or the nearest bar). Paired with this sweet (but still rather sexy) Topshop bikini, a classy pair of flats, this fabulous wide-brimmed 70s-style hat (my favourite recent purchase), and a bag big enough for your towels, books and suncream, and you’re ready to feel the sand beneath your toes.
Le soir
Dress: French Connection (£77); Cardigan: French Connection (£92); Earrings: Oliver Bonas (£12); Clutch: Ted Baker (£119); Shoes: Nine West (£65).

I’ve opted for a not-too smart evening look here – the French are, after all, masters of looking sophisticated but never overdressed, and you want to feel comfortable and relaxed at the same time as making a bit of an effort. This French Connection dress is gorgeous, and extremely flattering on – it’s not too smart, and could be dressed down a little more with a cute pair of flats, but I love these chunky heels. Throw on a light cardie just in case there’s a chill in the air – the sparkles on this one make it feel a bit more special than any old cardigan – and team with a pair of gold earrings and a sophisticated clutch. Now, did someone say something about a long, leisurely dinner…?
