A Marrakech retreat

Morocco is a great honeymoon destination – if you’re travelling from the UK, it’s not a long flight, but you’ll definitely feel like you’re far away from home. In January, Angsana Riads Collection will be opening their latest property, Riad Dar Zaouia; the Arabic name means “a place of retreat”, and it’s been created to provide intimate, elegant and romantic surroundings – so, perfect for honeymooners.

I think this place looks great – full of local character, with beautiful textiles and furnishings, without being over the top or fussy, and I especially love the look of the rooftop garden, which would be the perfect place to wind down after a day exploring the city. There’s also a library, complete with a fireplace for the colder months, and a spa – Angsana’s hotels have a great reputation for excellent treatments. Also, because the riad is part of a collection of Angsana riads in the city, you’re able to enjoy the benefits of staying in a small hotel (it has just six rooms and one suite), while making use of the wider benefits from the other riads, including a hammam at Riad Bab Firdaus.

I was fortunate enough to visit Angsana’s hotel in Luang Prabang, Laos, earlier in the year, which was absolutely wonderful – if that’s anything to go by, this will be a really special place to stay.

Prices start at £140 a night; visit angsana.com for more details. Virgin + Hip Hotels are currently offering four nights at the riad from £595 per person, including flights.
